Azlan said the bill will be tabled at the legislative assembly on Thursday to amend the state constitution, in line with the amendment made in the Federal Constitution for the anti-hopping law.
“(After that) I will present a suitable date for the dissolution of the state assembly to the Raja of Perlis, so that we can hold the state election concurrently with the 15th general election,” he said in a Harian Metro report.
Azlan, who is also the assemblyman for Bintong, expressed hope that the anti-hopping enactment would apply to all assemblymen elected in the coming polls.
The federal anti-hopping law received the King’s consent on Aug 31 and came into effect on Oct 5 after the constitutional amendment was gazetted on Sept 6.
Under the law, MPs will lose their seats if they choose to jump to another party. Exceptions will be given to MPs who are sacked by their party or if their party is dissolved or deregistered.
An MP who is elected as the Dewan Rakyat Speaker will, however, be exempted from this law.
