Zahid’s 3 conditions not Umno’s official stance, says Tuan Ibrahim

The PAS deputy president said this as the three requirements were not included in Umno's official statement.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Muafakat Nasional was not established exclusively for Umno and PAS’ political interest, but for Muslim unity.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The three conditions that PAS needs to fulfil if it wants to resume its alliance with Umno in the coming general election are not the latter’s official stance, the Islamic party’s deputy president said.

Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said while Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had listed these requirements, they were nowhere to be found in the party’s official statement.

The three requirements are for PAS to pull out from Perikatan Nasional (PN); cut political ties with Bersatu; and officially declare that it would leave PN and Bersatu.

“These three conditions should be included in its official statement. The official statement did not contain these requirements,” he said, referring to Zahid’s announcement yesterday.

Tuan Ibrahim said this at a press conference at the Parliament lobby.

He also said that PAS had a “plan B” if the party failed to bring Umno and Bersatu together under Muafakat Nasional (MN), the political pact forged by the country’s largest Malay-Muslim parties in 2019.

Tuan Ibrahim added that MN was not established exclusively for Umno and PAS’ political interest, but for Muslim unity and this was why he would brush off allegations that PAS had a foot in both camps.

“When MN meets unofficially, it is not meant for politics but the interest of Muslims.”

Tuan Ibrahim also said that PAS never flip-flopped on working with Umno under MN, especially when it came to Muslim unity.

“We have never U-turned. We never backed down when it came to Muslim unity,” he said in reference to news reports implying that PAS would backtrack on working with Umno.
