
He told a press conference the parliamentary select committee (PSC) tasked with going through the bill has approved amendments made to the legislation, paving the way for its tabling on Thursday.
“Since it has been approved at the PSC level, we hope that those in the committee will inform their own party members that all concerns related to the bill have been addressed,” he said.
Khairy also predicted that the bill will be passed by the Dewan Rakyat either on Thursday or after Budget 2023 has been tabled on Friday.
“As with all other bills that do not make it to the Dewan Negara if Parliament gets dissolved, it will also need to be tabled again by the new government,” he said.
The GEG bill seeks to ban the use, possession and sale of cigarettes and vape products to those born after 2007.
On a separate note, Khairy said the MySejahtera app is now a public health management app as part of the country’s plans to digitalise health services.
He said several non-Covid-19 features, such as enabling organ donation registration and the blood donation card, have been added in the last few months.
