PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested two men suspected to be involved in kidnapping a 38-year-old businessman at a restaurant in Ampang last week.

Ampang Jaya district police chief Farouk Eshak said a 37-year-old factory worker and a 40-year-old vegetable seller were arrested at Taman Dagang, Ampang, at 3pm yesterday.

Both suspects have previous records for drugs. The duo have been remanded until Thursday.

The police also seized the Toyota Vellfire believed to have been used in the kidnapping, the suspects’ mobile phones and some clothes.

The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abduction with intent to wrongfully confine someone, which provides for a maximum seven years in jail and a fine upon conviction.

The businessman was kidnapped while dining alone at a restaurant last Thursday, with Farouk previously stating that the incident was believed to be related to debt owed to the victim’s employer.

In a video that went viral, the victim was seen shouting for help and struggling to escape, but to no avail. Several motorists were seen giving chase and a number of motorcyclists tried to stop the car, but failed.

The victim showed up at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters the same night to lodge a police report, claiming he had been freed by the kidnappers in Klang about five hours after being kidnapped.

Farouk said the victim had injuries on his face and feet. He later sought treatment at Hospital Ampang.
