Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said they have recorded statements from 29 individuals and proposed that Raja Petra be charged under Section 500 of the Defamation Act.

“The police briefed the deputy public prosecutor of the findings on Sept 13,” he told FMT.

Dellhan added that in their investigation, the police had also viewed CCTV recordings of the place where the raid took place.

Earlier today, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Yahaya Othman said investigations were still ongoing.

Last month, Raja Petra, via his portal, Malaysia Today, alleged that Amar’s girlfriend was present at a raid on former prime minister Najib Razak’s home in May 2018 and that she had left with one of the bags seized by the police.

Amar had lodged a police report at Dang Wangi police station over the allegation on Aug 12.

Two other retired police deputy directors had also lodged reports against Raja Petra on the same day.

Meanwhile, a source close to the matter said that it would be a challenge to have the UK-based blogger extradited so that he could be charged here as the UK would not entertain extradition requests based on defamation allegations.

“Unless he committed a serious crime like murder or rape, (the UK would not consider extraditing him),” the source said.
