PETALING JAYA:
A 43-year-old woman has been arrested after her 13-year-old autistic son was believed to have fallen from their first-floor apartment in Taman Melawati yesterday.

He was found at the foot of the building with injuries to his head and right hand and is receiving treatment in hospital, police said.

The woman’s former husband had alerted the authorities yesterday morning and the woman was arrested at 2pm today, Ampang Jaya police chief Farouk Eshak said.

Farouk said preliminary investigations found that she had left the boy unattended after she had taken her five-year-old daughter to swimming practice on Friday night.

She had later spent the night at a hotel, he said.

Police will seek a remand order for the woman tomorrow for investigations under the Child Act.

Farouk urged the public against mistreating, neglecting, abandoning or exposing children to danger.
