The suspect is also homeless and will face charges in court after being discharged from Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s psychiatric ward.

The suspect had assaulted two policemen with a hammer at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters early yesterday morning, hitting one of them on the head and the other on the back.
PETALING JAYA:
A foreigner who was arrested after allegedly attacking two policemen with a hammer yesterday is believed to have mental health issues, police said.

Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the suspect was undergoing mental health checks at Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s psychiatric ward and will be brought to court once discharged.

“An investigation paper was referred to the deputy public prosecutor today and charges will be made under Sections 353 and 447 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act,” he said in a brief statement.

He added that the man was 30 years old and homeless.

Section 353 involves the use of criminal force, Section 447 deals with criminal trespass while Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act concerns the absence of valid travel documents.

It was reported that the man had gone to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters around 1.40am yesterday, pretending to ask a cop on duty a question.

He then took out a hammer and hit the policeman on the head before running toward another, who was armed with a submachine gun.

After failing to take the policeman’s weapon, the suspect hit him on the back with the hammer before eventually being arrested amid a tussle.
