PETALING JAYA:
A random check by a person attending the Kelantan Keluarga Malaysia Aspirations (AKM) Tour event in Kota Bharu led him to discover that he had unclaimed money amounting to RM12,000.

The man was among 1,273 people who checked their status at a counter set up at the event, said Nur Anis Sahibudin, head of the Unclaimed Money Unit of the Kelantan accountant-general’s department.

“It came as a surprise to the visitor,” she said.

“In fact, most of them looked surprised because they didn’t know they had unclaimed monies,” she told Bernama today.

Nur Anis said the public could check on their unclaimed money via the eGUMIS portal.

One of the visitors, Amsyari Mohamad Suhaimi, 40, said he knew about his unclaimed money but did not have time to check.

“I found out that I have more than RM500 in unclaimed money. Maybe it was from when I was studying. It’s been so long that I can’t remember at all.

“It’s good to have this kind of service at the Kelantan AKM Tour programme,” he said.

The event, which began on Friday at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu, ends today.
