Bersatu won’t be affected if Edmund Santhara quits, says Hamzah

However, the Bersatu secretary-general declines to confirm or deny whether the Segamat MP has sent in his letter.

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said Segamat MP Edmund Santhara Kumar’s status as deputy tourism, arts and culture minister would be announced later.
LARUT:
Bersatu will not be weakened if Segamat MP Edmund Santhara Kumar quits the party, its secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said today.

Hamzah said this was because the future of the party is determined by its membership as a whole and not merely by a single MP.

FMT, quoting sources, reported yesterday that Santhara had resigned from the party.

However, the Bersatu secretary-general declined to confirm or deny whether the Segamat MP had sent in his letter of resignation.

“The struggles of party members are more important. MPs sometimes only consider individual interests while it is the members who determine the party’s struggles and ideology.

“So this is something that will not weaken the party as some individuals only struggle for themselves,” he said after attending a townhall session here today.

Hamzah, who is Larut MP, said Santhara’s status as deputy tourism, arts and culture minister would be announced later.

Santhara joined Bersatu in August 2020 after the Sheraton Move and was appointed as the leader of the party’s associated wing.

Meanwhile, Hamzah said Perikatan Nasional (PN) would hold a meeting soon regarding the selection of a new logo to be used in the 15th general election (GE15).

“We have engaged several companies to create designs for us. We will discuss and reach a final decision at the upcoming meeting,” he said.

On July 11, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin was reported to have said that a new logo would be introduced for use in GE15.
