PETALING JAYA:
Comedian Rizal van Geyzel has been arrested in connection with three videos said to touch on racial and religious sensitivities.

Rizal’s lawyer, Ramkarpal Singh, said the Crackhouse Comedy Club co-founder will spend a night at the Dang Wangi lockup.

“He was detained around noon after giving his statement to the cops at the Dang Wangi police station,” Ramkarpal told FMT.

Rizal will be taken to court tomorrow morning for a remand order.

Meanwhile, another police source confirmed that the father of four is being investigated by Bukit Aman’s D5 classified criminal investigation unit.

Several police reports had been lodged against Rizal, including one by the Bersatu’s associate wing which alleged that he had insulted the Malays.

The probe into Rizal comes a day after a woman who courted controversy during a stand-up comedy performance was charged for insulting Islam.

The woman, Siti Nuramira Abdullah, claimed trial.

Her boyfriend, Alexander Navin Vijayachandran, a freelance writer, was also charged with uploading insulting content on social media.

The 26-year-old woman sparked outrage on social media after a video of her discarding her tudung and baju kurung, to reveal another set of clothes underneath, went viral.

She had introduced herself as a Muslim and claimed that she had memorised 15 chapters of the Quran.

The Crackhouse Comedy Club subsequently condemned the performance, and immediately banned her and her partner. Kuala Lumpur City Hall later suspended the club’s operations.
