Fallen tree crushes 2 soldiers in thunderstorm

The army says assistance will be channelled to the deceased soldiers' loved ones to ensure their welfare.

The two soldiers died in the incident early this morning, at an undisclosed location.
PETALING JAYA:
Two soldiers of the Royal Malay Regiment’s second battalion died after being crushed under a fallen tree during a thunderstorm today.

An army spokesman said sergeant Kamal Ramli and corporal Zaki Johari died in the incident early this morning, at an undisclosed location.

The team’s temporary base of operations was hit by a thunderstorm at about 2.30am.

“After the storm subsided at around 2.50am, safety checks were conducted and both personnel were found dead after being crushed by a tree,” it said.

The army expressed its condolences to the loved ones of the two soldiers and said the appropriate assistance will be channelled to them to ensure their welfare.

Kamal will be laid to rest in Sungai Petani, Kedah while Zaki will be buried in Chuping, Perlis.
