Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the six had given their statements yesterday.

He said police were tracking several others who had also attended the gathering to record their statements and assist in investigations.

“An investigation paper has been opened under Section 9 of the Peaceful Assembly Act,” he told FMT.

Section 9 of the Act requires organisers to notify the relevant district police chiefs at least 10 days before an assembly is held.

Under Section 9(5), those who fail to do so can be fined not more than RM10,000.

Yesterday, about 500 army veterans held a peaceful assembly at Tugu Negara to demand for a review of the pension rate and pension payments for those who served in the army for less than 21 years.

Currently, only members of the army who served for at least 21 years are able to get a monthly pension.

The veterans said they were left with no other option but to assemble peacefully after eight years of attempting to use the right channels to air their grievances on the issue of pensions.

They claimed that about 330,000 veterans were deprived of their rights, with some 135,000 of them not eligible for pension payments.
