He said the number of physical votes amounted to 750, but only 528 appeared on the election committee’s system.

“There was a significant difference with 222 votes lost just like that,” he said after filing a police report against the PKR election committee yesterday.

Afdlin claimed that the counting of ballot papers was done without the candidates’ representatives present.

He also alleged that the committee had appointed the former PKR Setiawangsa secretary as the polling station coordinator and allowed the husband of one of the candidates to work in the polling station during election day.

“These appointments are seen as biased as both of them have a direct relationship with the candidates. There is no guarantee of transparency and integrity as they are also members of the party and not neutral parties with no interest in the polls,” he said.

The incumbent, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who is also the Setiawangsa MP, was re-elected with 482 votes against Afdlin’s 372.

The PKR elections ended on May 28 after a re-voting process was carried out at 12 divisions in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Selangor and Sabah.

Claims of irregularities during the polls led to the PKR election committee chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa stating on May 31 that a decision will be made within a week as to whether a forensic audit of the results was needed.

The official results will be announced at the party’s congress on June 25 and 26.
