KUANTAN:
Police arrested a Myanmar man for attempting to abduct a four-year-old boy from the compound of the child’s house in a village at Batu 3, Jalan Gambang, here yesterday.

Kuantan district police chief Wan Zahari Wan Busu said members of the public chased and caught the 30-year-old suspect after hearing the screams of the child’s mother before handing him over to the police.

He said according to the child’s mother, the man had approached her house while she was watering her plants.

Her son, the youngest of seven, was playing in the house compound.

“The man covered the boy’s face with a white cloth and fled with the boy for about 200 metres before he was caught by members of the public,” Wan Zahari said in a statement here today.

The victim did not suffer any injuries. The suspect is believed to have entered the country illegally three months ago.
