This comes after an operation to dispose of seized fireworks at the Sentul district police headquarters (IPD) evidence store led to a fire and an explosion yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim said police would propose the best methods to dispose of such fireworks after reviewing reports by the fire and rescue department as well as the chemistry department.

“Some seized items may not be suitable to be destroyed using the existing methods. So, we will look into this before making a suggestion to the magistrate,” he said at a media conference here.

Without revealing details, Azmi reiterated that the disposal method used yesterday was based on the court’s instructions.

Sentul police were destroying over RM4 million worth of fireworks and firecrackers seized in a raid in Kepong last month when a fire and an explosion occurred at the disposal site.

Three people had minor injuries while 50 vehicles were burnt in the incident.
