PETALING JAYA:
PAS will never work with Pakatan Harapan (PH), party president Abdul Hadi Awang said today.

He added that PAS had worked with the parties in the opposition coalition for a long time but no longer wished to cooperate with them.

“We will continue working with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Umno, whose leader is the prime minister.

“We will work to strengthen these ties until the next general election (GE15),” he said at a press conference.

Earlier, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu had stated that both parties would not work with Bersatu or PAS.

PAS had previously been part of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition, together with PKR and DAP, between 2008 and 2015.

After the Islamic party severed its ties with the coalition, several of its leaders left to form Amanah and joined forces with PKR and DAP to form PH in September 2015.

Asked about the leaked documents from a PAS meeting, which allegedly talk about plans to push for action against Umno leaders facing charges in court, Hadi said these were akin to poison pen letters and were intended to slander the party.

He said vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar had brushed off these documents as “rubbish” yesterday and there was no need for him to give any further explanation.

“The problem is that we don’t even know who wrote the letter. So there is no point for us to entertain such letters.”

When asked to give his thoughts on Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi lodging a police report on this issue, Hadi said the Bagan Datuk MP had every right to do so.

The documents, believed to be minutes of a PAS meeting, had gone viral on social media on Sunday.

They allegedly spoke of a plot to topple and disrupt Umno and Barisan Nasional.

The documents also mentioned a plan to expedite the sentences of Umno’s “court cluster”, namely Zahid and former prime minister Najib Razak, who are either on trial or have been convicted on various charges, including criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering.
