In a post today, the Pontian MP said the “real PN” only has 25 seats.
“Try to count — Bersatu has 31 seats, PAS has 18 and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) has one. That is only 50 seats.
“Meanwhile, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is not part of PN.
“Out of the 31 seats that Bersatu has, 15 of them were previously Umno’s seats while another 10 were PKR’s seats.
“The actual number of PN seats is 25 — the six Bersatu MPs who are non-party hoppers, 18 PAS seats and one STAR seat. Not 70,” said Ahmad.
He made the comments in response to a Berita Harian report yesterday, which reported Hadi as saying that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob would be consulting PN on the decision to not extend Putrajaya’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakatan Harapan.
The PAS president had maintained that any decision on the MoU needed to be made jointly by the parties that made up the federal government. In the report, Hadi was quoted as saying that the current government was dominated by PN, which has 70 seats.
Ahmad also denied the recent claims made by Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad that Umno’s nomination of Ismail as its prime minister candidate for the 15th general election (GE15) was a ploy to push the latter into calling for polls as soon as possible.
He said Umno had no hidden agenda and that each party had the right to nominate any of their leaders as their respective prime minister candidates.
“No one can stop Umno from naming Ismail as its prime minister candidate. That is our right and not a trick or anything,
“GE15 can be called at any time deemed suitable by the prime minister, with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” Bernama quoted him as saying at an iftar event in Pontian last night.
He also said that Umno does not want the MoU with PH to be extended after July 31.
