PETALING JAYA: Graphic artist and activist Fahmi Reza will be released today following his arrest over a satirical drawing of an ape in an attire similar to that worn by royalty.
His lawyer, Rajsurian Pillai, said a magistrate granted a one-day remand against Fahmi today.
Police arrested Fahmi at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
They also confiscated a mobile phone and a SIM card for investigations under the Sedition Act as well as the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Fahmi had tweeted earlier yesterday that he had been summoned by police over a satirical cartoon he uploaded on social media on Wednesday.
