The 20-year-old suspect is said to have 'offered' to help the shopper unload items from a trolley to her car.

PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested the suspect in connection with a groping incident at the parking lot of Tamarind Square in Cyberjaya yesterday.

Sepang district police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the 20-year-old food delivery rider was arrested at his home in Puchong today and confessed to the act.

In a statement, he said the arrest was made after police met the management of Tamarind Square and viewed CCTV footage in the area.

“Checks on the CCTV footage found that the suspect arrived at Tamarind Square close to 2pm on a red motorcycle. He parked his motorcycle in the basement,” he said.

The suspect was alleged to have approached a 27-year-old woman pushing a trolley of items towards her car in the parking lot.

The man offered to “help” the complainant because he wanted her trolley, but she told him she did not need help and proceeded to put the items in her car.

“Suddenly, the man touched and squeezed her bottom and ran away,” Wan Kamarul said in a separate statement earlier.

In a Twitter post yesterday, a netizen detailed how a friend of hers was groped by a man. She also alleged that the same man groped another woman a few minutes later.

Meanwhile, Tamarind Square management expressed sympathy to the victims of sexual assault there and said it was horrified and appalled by the latest incident.

It assured the public that it will work on increasing the security around the premises.

“We have worked hard to create a safe environment for customers. CCTV coverage has been improved and expanded, particularly in car parks and blind spots.

“More security guards have been deployed to patrol around our premises and the installation of panic buttons at strategic locations as an additional safety measure is currently in progress,” it said in a statement.
