Anwar, who is PKR president, said the issue of support for Muhyiddin had never arisen. The meetings were normal ones, he told reporters after a tribute function for DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.
“Meetings have been going on for a long time. I cannot deny that there are no meetings, but there are no questions about any decision of the coalition to support him (Muhyiddin),” he said.
Muhyiddin was reported to have had a recent meeting with Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which Mahathir said was about Muhyiddin seeking Pejuang’s help to regain the prime minister’s post.
However, Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said today that Muhyiddin, as Bersatu president, had also held discussions with the leaders of other opposition parties at the Johor elections last month.
On working with Mahathir
Anwar was also asked tonight about whether Pakatan Harapan will work together with Mahathir at the coming general election. The opposition leader said the matter has not been discussed yet.
New DAP leadership
When asked about the new DAP leadership elected last month, Anwar said his party was working well with the new leadership, headed by DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook.
“We have been in discussions with Loke and I think we will continue this good path (of cooperation),” he said.
Saifuddin-Rafizi battle
Anwar said the race between PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and vice-president Rafizi Ramli for the deputy president post had been cordial and civil.
“Their battle is not rancorous as compared to the previous battle (Rafizi and former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali). “Their race is focused on (the party’s) priorities and policy direction,” he said.
