PETALING JAYA: A former teacher was ordered to serve his 30-year jail sentence after the Court of Appeal upheld his conviction of raping a 12-year-old student at a chalet in Papar, Sabah.
The primary school teacher had been convicted in 2017 of raping the child four times in August and October 2014.
A three-man bench, led by Judge Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil, also upheld a High Court sentence for Zalani Amit, 58, to be given two strokes of the rotan, Kosmo reported.
Zalani was convicted of the crime he committed eight years ago.
Karim, along with Abu Bakar Jais and Supang Lian unanimously rejected Zalani’s appeal on the grounds the High Court had not erred in its judgment.
In 2019, it was reported that the High Court in Sabah reduced Zalani’s jail term after dropping two of four rape convictions.
