With deaths among 60-plus rising, Khairy says ‘get boosted’

The health minister says booster shots are crucial for the elderly as the fasting month is around the corner.

Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin says booster shots are the best protection for senior citizens against the worst outcome of Covid-19.
PETALING JAYA:
Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin has urged senior citizens to get their Covid-19 booster jabs after the country registered 105 deaths yesterday, with the majority of them involving those above 60.

Khairy said while the capacity in hospitals and intensive care units (ICU) was under control, he wanted to reduce the number of fatalities among Covid-19 patients.

“If you’re 60 and above, you need to get boosted to protect (yourselves) from the worst outcome of Covid-19 – death. Convince your elders to get boosted,” he said on Twitter today.

Khairy said booster shots were important considering that the fasting month was just around the corner.

“Our senior citizens might not be travelling anywhere now but when Ramadan comes, they will go in numbers for their tarawih prayers.

“It is better to top up their protection with booster shots,” he said.
