PETALING JAYA:
A private school in Shah Alam has apologised for its abrupt announcement of closure, saying it should have handled the matter better.

On Feb 15, a notice was issued to the parents of students detailing that the last day of classes would be on May 15 after the school was financially crippled by the measures taken to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The unnamed school has now apologised for the “deep distress” the situation has caused.

“We regret the circumstances that have caused parents such grief and realise that we could and should have handled the matter better,” its management said in a statement today.

Yesterday FMT reported that the school’s abrupt announcement left many parents scrambling to find other schools for their children before the new school year begins.

The school said it has several measures in place to assist parents, including assisting the transfer of students to other schools and availing the necessary information on withdrawals and reimbursements of fees paid.

“We understand that collecting fees at the beginning of the year would seem misleading and unfair,” the management said. “We want to clarify that the management was attempting in every manner possible to keep the school going.”
