Khairy to meet parents over teen’s death

Thirteen-year-old Revnesh Kumar was reported to have died three weeks after being vaccinated.

Khairy Jamaluddin says a report from the chemistry department will be shared with the teen’s parents.
PETALING JAYA:
Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin says he will meet the parents of Revnesh Kumar, who was reported to have died three weeks after being vaccinated, tomorrow.

Khairy said a report from the chemistry department will be shared with Revnesh’s parents.

“I will meet them tomorrow in my office. I think it would be better for me to speak to them first before making any public announcements.

“This is the procedure we should follow, as (the report) includes personal medical and death-related details on the deceased,” he said in a press conference today.

Klang MP Charles Santiago had urged the health ministry to provide clarification on the death of Revnesh, 13, after his parents asked for an investigation.

He said Khairy’s silence could create a negative impression of the ministry and deter parents from allowing their children to be vaccinated.

Santiago said the results of the post-mortem should be made public as Revnesh had died 18 days after receiving the first dose of the vaccine on Dec 30, 2021.

Revnesh was said to have vomited and collapsed on his way to a karate lesson on Jan 16. He was taken to the Kajang Hospital where he died.

Khairy said claims that the post-mortem results had been delayed were inaccurate as the ministry wanted to ensure that the investigation was carried out thoroughly.

“People have questioned why the findings from Revnesh’s post-mortem had yet to be released although he passed away in January.

“We wanted to ensure that a complete investigation was carried out, not just an autopsy, but also for blood and tissue samples to be sent to the lab.

“We had to wait for the report from the chemistry department, which we received today. This is why I will be meeting the parents tomorrow,” he said.
