No tit for tat, PKR won’t contest Muda’s seats

Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh says this is out of respect for its PH allies Amanah and DAP.

Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh says Muda still has time to reconsider its decision to contest the Larkin seat which PKR is going for.
PETALING JAYA:
PKR will not “infringe” on seats allocated to Pakatan Harapan’s partners and those offered to Muda in the Johor elections, its state leader, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, said.

He said PKR would not do so out of respect for its PH allies Amanah and DAP.

Yesterday, Muda unveiled Rasid Abu Bakar as its candidate for the Larkin seat after PKR had already announced Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain as its pick on Feb 14.

“I deeply regret Muda’s action (in announcing its own candidate) because it clearly disrespects the spirit of unity the opposition should adopt in championing the interests of  the people and the state of Johor.

“PKR however will not respond in a similar manner and infringe on Muda’s seats out of respect for Amanah and DAP,” Syed Ibrahim said in a statement today.

He said Muda still had time to reconsider its decision before the nominations tomorrow.

“It is unwise of Muda to clash with other opposition parties as it would only lead to a feeling of contempt among voters who are already fed up with political power grabs,” he said.

Syed Ibrahim also said PKR would only assist PH candidates during the two-week election campaign.

“PKR will only focus on helping its own candidates along with Amanah and DAP’s,” he said.

DAP and Amanah previously made way for Muda in six seats, and while PKR offered Muda three seats, they were unable to reach an agreement.

Syed Ibrahim had previously been reported as saying that PKR gave Muda 48 hours to respond on the offer of seats but there was no feedback.

Muda announced its full list of candidates for the March 12 polls yesterday.
