Ahead of the March 12 Johor state elections, Azalina Othman Said says democracy and the rule of law will prevail.
PETALING JAYA:
Pengerang MP Azalina Othman Said has quashed claims that Umno leaders involved in the so-called “court cluster” will no longer face any charges should Barisan Nasional win in the Johor polls next month.

In a poem titled Cluster and Colony, posted on Twitter, the former law minister said court proceedings against those in this “court cluster” would go on even after the state elections.

“The Johor state elections are for Johoreans. Come March 12, we will vote and a new state government will be formed.

“Come March 13, our lives will go on. And so will the court proceedings against those involved in the ‘court cluster’,” she said, referring to prominent Umno leaders who are either on trial or have been convicted on various charges, such as criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering.

Azalina Othman Said’s poem posted on Twitter.

In her poem, Azalina said Umno was not the only political party with a “court cluster” problem.

“Some ‘court cluster’ MPs belong to Umno, and some belong to other political parties. Some ‘court cluster’ MPs are painted black, while others are painted ‘neutral’,” she said.

“Stop this smear campaign, my friend, your efforts will be in vain.

“Democracy and the rule of law will prevail,” she added.

Previously, Bersatu leaders like the party’s information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan were reported as saying that the Johor elections were being pushed by Umno leaders from the “court cluster” intent on saving themselves.

Azalina also called out MPs who have had charges against them dropped after they switched parties, saying the “frog colony is rife” while the “anti-hopping law is in strife”.
