He said the delay in distributing the assistance, known as “Program Bantuan Selangor Bangkit”, was due to the very high number of applications. He noted that Klang alone had 77,000 applications.
Amirudin explained that additional time was required to review each application, adding that there were duplicate applications from the same households.
“To avoid this duplication as well as ensure equity and fairness of assistance to the affected victims, the district offices are in the final stages of sorting the data,” he told the media at a press conference held to address the issue today.
Amirudin said that there were still 30,000 remaining applications that had not been processed and resolved in Klang and 12,000 in Petaling.
He added that officers from other districts had been roped in to speed up the process.
“We are aiming to distribute the cash assistance to 3,000 flood victims every day,” he said.
To date, a total of 55,425 families in nine districts had received the RM1,000 aid while 13 families of victims who lost their lives in the floods had received the RM10,000 aid.
“A total of RM55.555 million in flood aid had been channelled to the affected families.”
Amirudin also gave an assurance that the rest of the recipients would receive the aid by the end of the month.
