PKR Youth secretary Syukri Razab said PH had its own strengths and that the coalition needed to consider the matter holistically before forming partnerships with other parties.
He said Amanah, DAP and PKR had their own youth wings, and the PH leadership should consider candidates from these wings before thinking of cooperating with Muda.
“There are many potential candidates from among the young leaders in PH who are of quality,” he told FMT.
Syukri admitted that Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s Muda had great potential but believed that it would struggle to garner the support of the older voters.
He also said PH needed to decide on its candidate for the menteri besar’s post if it wanted to convince voters to vote for them, adding that this person should be chosen “carefully”.
“This leader must be capable of mobilising voters, not just as a popular figure, but someone who has grassroots strength to drive PH towards winning more votes in the polls,” he said.
Previously, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim had said the coalition would be contesting all 56 seats in the Johor elections. However, he left the door open to discussions with Muda.
The Johor state legislative assembly was dissolved last Saturday and elections must be held within 60 days.
The Election Commission will meet on Feb 9 to decide on the nomination and polling days.
