PETALING JAYA:
Johor state assembly speaker Suhaizan Kaiat has denied receiving a letter on the dissolution of the assembly to make way for state polls.

He said his office has not received any letter or verbal notice from the Johor menteri besar on the matter.

“Nothing at all,” he said on reports over a notice to dissolve the assembly.

A news portal had reported that a letter to dissolve the assembly was sent by menteri besar Hasni Mohammad to the speaker’s office.

Citing Umno sources, it said the state assembly would be dissolved on Sunday after the application was approved by the Johor palace.

Earlier today, it was reported that Hasni had hinted that the state polls would be held soon.

Speculation has been rife that the Barisan Nasional-led assembly would be dissolved soon to pave the way for state elections in the coalition’s bid to strengthen its one-seat majority following the death of Bersatu’s Osman Sapian.
