In a Bernama report, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said Long Tiger, whose real name is Abdul Hamim Ab Hamid, 32, will be charged under Section 224 of the Penal Code.
“He will be charged at the Tangkak magistrates’ court with escaping from police custody,” he told reporters after witnessing the handing-over of duties for the Johor police chief’s post today.
Hamim is currently under remand at the Sungai Udang prison in Melaka until Jan 18.
On Dec 15 last year, Hamim escaped through the main gate of the Tangkak magistrates’ court while waiting for his case on charges of blackmail to begin. He was rearrested in Kedah on Dec 28.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on the case of a teenager, who was jailed 10 days and fined RM4,000 or five months jail for stealing money from a donation box of a mosque near Rawang, Razarudin said police would leave it to the High Court to review the sentence meted out by a lower court.
“We have completed our investigation and the teenager has been charged. We will leave it to the High Court to review the sentence,” he said.
The hearing to review the sentence of the Selayang magistrates’ court is set for tomorrow at the Shah Alam High Court.
