Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the owner of the “Jebat JD” account is a former police officer, while the policemen are a senior assistant commissioner and a corporal.
“Investigation papers have been opened under Section 203 of the Penal Code for disclosing confidential information, and they can be fined up to RM1 million or jailed for a year, or both, if convicted,” he said at a press conference here today.
Touching on yesterday’s operation to arrest Hamim, Ayob Khan said the police arrested two men in Batu Pahat, Johor, between 7.25pm yesterday and 3am today after they were believed to have conspired with Hamim.
“One helped the suspect get a sim card while another cut his handcuffs,” he said, adding that police also confiscated a pair of handcuffs along with an iron cutter.
“Investigations are being conducted under Sections 223/224 of the Penal Code. If convicted, they can be punished with a two-year prison sentence, a fine, or both,” he said.
Ayob Khan also said disciplinary action would be taken against the Tangkak district police chief and the chief of the Tangkak police station for negligence in allowing Hamim to escape from custody.
On Dec 15, Hamim escaped from the lock-up at the Tangkak courthouse while still handcuffed.
The 32-year-old, who was to be charged with blackmail, was nabbed at a house in Kuala Ketil, near Sungai Petani in Kedah during a special police operation.
