KUALA LUMPUR:
Istana Negara has set up a disaster relief team to help flood victims.

The squad, mooted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, had a busy Christmas day when its members assisted flood victims in four badly affected districts in Selangor yesterday.

They went into action in Klang, Shah Alam, Hulu Langat and Kuala Langat.

“The Istana Negara disaster relief team was formed following a suggestion by the King, and aims to provide assistance and donations to victims who have lost their homes and suffered huge losses due to the floods.

“The King is very concerned about the plight of the flood victims and sympathises with them over the hardship they are going through.

“He expressed hope that the assistance by the team can help to reduce their burden,” Istana Negara said in a posting on its official Facebook page.

The relief team is led by Brigadier-General Mohd Zahari Yahya, who is an aide-de-camp to the King.

The team, comprising 120 officers and staff of Istana Negara, has contributed daily necessities such as toiletries, clothing, dry food and water, as well as Covid-19 self-test kits to the flood victims.

They have also helped to clean mosques and houses affected by the floods.
