133 test positive in Kulim factory cluster

The initial investigation shows that the cause may have been failure to comply with SOPs at the workplace.

All the cases are mildly symptomatic and have been told to undergo home quarantine, says the Kedah health department director.
PETALING JAYA:
One hundred and thirty-three workers at a factory in Kulim, Kedah, and their relatives have tested positive for Covid-19.

The cluster was detected after screening was conducted by the factory management in Mukim Padang Meha, Padang Serai, state health department director Dr Othman Warijo said in a statement.

He said the positive cases involved four districts – Kulim, Baling, Kuala Young and Sik.

“All the cases were mildly symptomatic and had been fully vaccinated. They have been ordered to undergo home quarantine,” he said in a statement.

Othman said a preliminary investigation showed the transmission of the infection may have been caused by workers failing to comply with SOPs at the workplace.

“The department is conducting further investigations to identify the real cause of the cluster,” he said.

He reminded the public to continue adhering to SOPs and to adapt to the new normal.
