Now Khairy says Muhyiddin was misquoted, did not misspeak

The health minister says the Public Accounts Committee had referred to inaccurate news reports.

Khairy Jamaluddin says he has obtained the full transcript of the speech made by Muhyiddin Yassin in December last year.
PETALING JAYA:
Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin has come to the defence of Muhyiddin Yassin on the issue of the cost of vaccines, saying the former prime minister had been misquoted by the media, and had not misspoken as was previously claimed.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Covid-19 vaccine procurement cited a statement by Muhyiddin in 2020 on vaccinating 6.4 million people at the cost of RM3 billion, saying it led to confusion.

It said the cost of RM468 per person was higher compared with a leaked figure from Belgium, which only cost RM82.40 per person.

However, Khairy said in a statement today the report used by PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh from Dec 13, 2020 was inaccurate after comparing it with the full transcript of Muhyiddin’s speech at the time, which he had recently obtained.

“The reports used by Wong were from Berita Harian and The Straits Times. The error in the reports had not been corrected and can still be accessed today,” he said.

Khairy also reminded news outlets to be more careful in reporting such news.
