SHAH ALAM:
Police have detained a man believed to have snatched the handbag of a woman from her vehicle after an accident involving his car on the Federal Highway yesterday.

Shah Alam district police chief Baharudin Mat Taib said the suspect, aged 56, was arrested to facilitate investigations when he turned up to lodge an accident report at the district police headquarters here at 6.30pm yesterday.

Baharudin said earlier at about 1.30pm, a BMW car driven by a woman was involved in a rear-end collision with a Proton Gen 2 belonging to the man.

“The impact caused his car to hit the vehicle in front of him,” he said in a statement today.

Baharudin said an investigation paper on the case had been opened under Sections 379 and 323 of the Penal Code.

A 90-second video showing a man opening a car door and taking a woman’s handbag has been making the rounds on social media since yesterday.

This apparently happened after she refused to show him her identity card.

He refused to return the handbag despite her pleas, asking her to follow him to the police station.
