After he was sacked by Bersatu and then quitting Pejuang to become an independent MP in November 2020, the Simpang Renggam MP will join PKR, the party’s Johor deputy chief Jimmy Puah said when contacted by FMT.
“Yes, he (Maszlee will join PKR). There will be an event tomorrow evening in Simpang Renggam. Anwar (Ibrahim) may be the one who brought him in (to PKR),” he said.
Puah said that Maszlee’s entry would be like a shot in the arm for Johor PKR.
Maszlee was a Bersatu Supreme Council member, until he was sacked from the party in June 2020, along with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and three others. They joined the opposition bench in the Dewan Rakyat in May last year.
He subsequently joined Pejuang, the party set up by Mahathir, before leaving in November following “detailed observations and field research” of the people’s aspirations and needs.
