Cops probe claim of assault involving Selangor assemblyman, ex-wife

This follows a police report filed by the woman against Hasnul Baharuddin, who is also deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly.

Police have launched investigations into an alleged abuse case involving a Selangor assemblyman from Amanah and his ex-wife.

Kuala Langat district police chief Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Saleh told FMT that they had opened an investigation paper under Section 323 of the Penal Code for alleged assault and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act.

“Yes, we’ve received a report on that matter,” he confirmed, without disclosing further details.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that Juliani Jalilah Abdullah had lodged a police report against Morib assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin, claiming she was assaulted on Aug 21.

Hasnul, who is also the deputy speaker of the Selangor legislative assembly, and Juliani were recently divorced at the Kuala Langat shariah lower court.

The woman was reported to be Hasnul’s third wife. He had divorced his first and second wives during the course of their marriage.

She claimed that Hasnul wanted to remarry his second wife but she had not agreed to it, and that this had jeopardised their marriage.
