KUALA LUMPUR:
The health ministry has confirmed that there have been no Covid-19 vaccine-related deaths in Malaysia so far, despite rumours of such cases on social media.

Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also told the Dewan Rakyat that the number of those suffering from serious side effects from the vaccination is “very low”.

Asked by Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Warisan-Kota Belud) on alternatives available for those who cannot take the vaccine due to health reasons, he said they need to get clearance from registered medical experts on the alternative jabs they can take.

“If these people are allergic to the Pfizer vaccine, they can opt to take Sinovac.

“But if they have been exempted from taking the vaccine due to health reasons, they need to observe the SOPs like wearing masks, physical distancing and others since they have higher risks of being infected with Covid-19.”

Khairy said these individuals can apply for a vaccine exemption certificate through MySejahtera from the respective district health departments by producing the special form signed by the medical specialists who treated them.

“A digital certificate will be issued by MySejahtera within a week once the medically endorsed applications are submitted,” he said.

On the issue of mandatory vaccination, Khairy said it is up to the respective government agencies and private sectors to come up with their own requirements.

He said this in response to the recent announcement by the director-general of the Public Service Department (JPA) that mandated all civil servants to be vaccinated.
