Air Selangor said the shutdown of the Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plant Phase 1 (SSP1 WTP), expected to be from Oct 13 to 16, will affect water supply in 998 areas in the state.
They include Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.
In a statement today, Air Selangor chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman said the upgrade and maintenance work had been scheduled for 2019 and last year but was postponed following the water pollution incidents that caused a large-scale unscheduled water supply disruption.
He said the duration of the water supply disruption and recovery in the affected areas would vary depending on the distance of the consumers’ premises and the water pressure at the distribution system.
Suhaimi advised consumers to store enough water during the supply disruption period. He said 105 water tankers were being readied for use at critical premises such as hospitals and dialysis centres and for funerals.
Air Selangor would also provide 18 public water taps from Oct 14 to 16, and water filling stations would be made available for commercial consumers using their own tankers.
He said information would be provided to consumers from time to time through Air Selangor’s official social media accounts or through its 15300 hotline number.
