PETALING JAYA:
A man who went amok in front of the Gopeng police station in Perak, swinging a sickle while standing on a police car, has been arrested.

In a video that has gone viral, the man could be seen shouting as he stood on top of the police car which had its light bar turned on, although its siren was off.

The man was also swinging what looked like a sickle attached to a long stick as policemen, some armed with riot shields, and firemen tried to apprehend him.

The firemen then turned on their water hose and aimed a strong jet of water at the man, causing him to fall from the top of the car. Police personnel then jumped in to arrest him.

In a statement, Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the incident occurred at around 8am today, when the suspect tried to enter the police station before being stopped by officers.

Outside the station, the suspect climbed atop the squad car and began to swing the sickle around. He was eventually arrested when he fell from the car, which caused some injuries.

“The results of a urine test found the suspect was positive for methamphetamine (Syabu) and heroin. A check carried out by the police found the suspect had 16 past criminal and narcotics related offences on his record,” Mior said.

A number of items were seized during the arrest including a parang, the sickle seen in the video, a motorcycle and a key.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code, Section 90 of the Police Act 1967, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances Act 1958 and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
