Malaysian student injured in Cairo road accident

The Al-Azhar University student suffered a broken arm and leg after being hit by a motorcycle when crossing a road.

KUALA LUMPUR:
A Malaysian student injured in a road accident in Cairo, Egypt, has safely undergone surgery.

The student, Muhammad Haikal Ahmad Kabir, fractured his left arm and right leg in the incident on Friday.

According to Education Malaysia Egypt via its official Facebook page, Haikal was among five Malaysian students of Al-Azhar University who were hit by a motorcycle while crossing a road. The other students sustained minor injuries.

“He is recovering, and the family members of those affected have been notified of the developments,” said Malaysian embassy education attache Mohd Yasser Abdul Ghani told Bernama last night.

In the incident which happened at night, the motorcycle reportedly did not have headlights installed.

All the victims were sent to Bedayat Hospital in Hayyu Tahmin, Cairo, for treatment.

Haikal’s surgery reportedly cost 100,000 Egyptian pounds (RM26,000).

The embassy will ensure that the welfare and needs of the victims will be taken care of, said Yasser.

A representative of Malaysian ambassador to Cairo Zamani Ismail also visited Haikal.
