Fahmi Fadzil, who is Lembah Pantai MP, said deputy speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon rejected the motion because it did not adhere to Standing Order 4(3), which requires a proposer and seconder.
“Hence, I cannot allow for the motion to be tabled at the sitting,” the letter, signed by Rashid read.
Fahmi said the letter, which he uploaded on Twitter, was emailed to him on Aug 30.
Separately, Rashid also rejected a similar motion by Amanah deputy president and Pulai MP Salahuddin Ayub on the same grounds.
Salahuddin was informed about the matter in a letter dated Aug 25.
Earlier today, Azhar denied rejecting motions from MPs proposing his removal as speaker.
In a statement, Azhar, who was appointed speaker during the Muhyiddin Yassin-era, said he had received motions for his removal and also for proposed candidates for the post after he vacated it.
“As soon as my office received these motions, I informed the MPs who submitted them that I would not make a decision on the matter because of a conflict of interest.
“Any decision on these motions has been left to Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Rashid.”
