KUALA LUMPUR:
A food vendor pleaded not guilty in a magistrates’ court here today to lodging a false police report.

Muhammad Amar Zaid Muhammad Amir Lim, 21, is accused of making a false report to police officer Nuratikah Kafly at the Sentul police station on June 7, in which he alleged he had been extorted by three officers.

If found guilty under Section 182 of the Penal Code, Amar, who is also known as Lim Thiam Fook, faces a maximum six months in jail or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Magistrate Wong Chai Sia granted bail of RM2,000 in one surety and fixed the next mention for Oct 1.

It was reported that Amar had claimed that he had been extorted by three police officers after he failed to produce a letter allowing him to operate his soup stall during the total lockdown period.

He later changed his statement and withdrew his police report.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng had said at a press conference with Amar on June 15 that the trader decided to change his statement after he was interrogated by police.

Amad denied lying and insisted that the police officers had extorted him.
