SUNGAI PETANI:
An IT analyst remanded for three days for sending a private message to Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s fan page over the weekend will be freed today – hours after his pregnant wife made an impassioned plea for his release.

Kuala Muda police chief Adzli Abu Shah, in a short text to FMT, said the 25-year-old man will be released this evening on police bail as they had wrapped up their investigations.

The man was picked up from his home in Taiping early yesterday and was brought to a magistrate in Sungai Petani to be remanded.

This followed a police complaint lodged by Sanusi’s fan page administrator over an “insulting and threatening” message received on Sunday evening.

The man, in the latest case, had scolded Sanusi for making fun of the dead, followed by insults against his mother, saying he “will kena santau” (will be cursed) one day.

The message was in response to Sanusi’s recent remarks made over additional containers to store the Covid-19 dead at the Sungai Petani hospital. The menteri besar has since apologised for the remark.

Police opened a case to investigate the alleged intentional insult to provoke a breach of the peace, abuse of network services and insulting behaviour.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
