KUALA LUMPUR:
Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh are the latest lawmakers to be called in by police for questioning following Monday’s gathering at Dataran Merdeka.

They arrived at Dang Wangi police station here at 2.35pm today, along with lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo.

Syed Saddiq told reporters briefly that it was irregular to restrict MPs from going to Parliament to debate on matters that concerned the public.

He said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah wanted the issues to be discussed in Parliament.

“Our salaries are paid by the people, and we need to exercise our responsibility to them by attending the Dewan Rakyat.”

Earlier today, MPs Lim Lip Eng (Kepong), Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai), Tony Pua (Damansara) and Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam) also had their statements recorded by the police.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said 206 police reports had been lodged nationwide over the gathering.

He said police were investigating the event under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, and Section 269 of the Penal Code for a negligent act that was likely to spread infection of a disease dangerous to life.
