Following the two-week postponement of the sitting from last Thursday, Lim noted that the Dewan Rakyat could sit as soon as Aug 16 and the Dewan Negara from Aug 17 to Aug 19, instead of in September.
He said Muhyiddin’s four-paragraph-long statement today showed that the prime minister would not be resigning nor “sacrificing” any minister or officer, and would prevent any attempt to overthrow his back door government.
“Secondly, it marks the end of an improper attempt to repeal the six emergency ordinances as was decided by the Cabinet on July 21.”
However, he said it still raised questions surrounding the next Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara sittings.
“Muhyiddin must explain why the special Parliament sitting, which was cut short, cannot resume on Aug 16 or on an earlier date so motions on revoking (the) six emergency ordinances (EOs) can be presented, debated and decided upon,” he said.
With the end of the Emergency on Aug 1, Muhyiddin has said that the issue of the revocation of the EOs by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong no longer arose.
Still, he said, the EOs would be brought to Parliament at the next sitting in September to be debated, in line with the King’s decree on the matter and that the Cabinet would also discuss it tomorrow.
