The company, OWA Resources, through its representatives, filed a bankruptcy notice against Sajat and attempted to serve the notice on her but could not do so.
They had won a suit against her in the Court of Appeal, where Sajat was ordered to pay RM200,000 in damages.
The company’s lawyer, Nurul Hafidzah Hassan, said they had not received any affidavit from Sajat to oppose the bankruptcy proceedings.
“We could not locate her whereabouts and resorted to substituted service. We will advertise this bankruptcy notice through newspapers,” she added.
Hafidzah said although Sajat’s bank account was frozen, OWA Resources could only retrieve RM5,000, which was the amount available in the account.
“We have no choice but to initiate this bankruptcy action against her,” she added.
OWA Resources, in a statement, said that Sajat’s representatives had proposed to settle the RM200,000 damages by paying RM3,000 each month.
However, the company had not agreed to the terms of payment.
The authorities previously said they believed Sajat had fled overseas after an arrest warrant was issued against her for failing to attend court proceedings at the shariah high court.
The proceedings were a remention of the case against Sajat, who was charged with dressing up as a woman at a religious event.
