Lim Kit Siang also slammed the Cabinet for using its July 14 meeting to express unanimous support for Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister at a time when Malaysians were waiting for some really good news.
Touching on Muhyiddin’s “full kitchen” remarks, Lim expressed shock that the prime minister could say such a thing, saying he was out of touch with the woes faced by the rakyat on the ground.
Muhyiddin was reported as saying: “I think if we go to the ground, we will probably find the kitchens of homes to be full (with supplies).
“I don’t mean this is the case for everyone, that’s why we have a registration system so that (food aid) distribution can be fair.”
Lim said this showed Muhyiddin’s government had no idea of the rakyat’s hardships and had no empathy whatsoever.
“Maybe they are not aware that thousands are queuing up daily throughout the country for basic food aid.”
Commenting on a tweet by de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan for invoking Stalin’s victory over Hitler in the Battle of Stalingrad when comparing the fight against Covid-19, Lim said this comparison was worrying as it implied that the worst is yet to come.
“I should be welcoming Takiyuddin’s tweet for being open-minded and probably being the first Islamist leader to praise the Soviet communist dictator Stalin for his victory over Hitler in the Battle of Stalingrad 80 years ago.
“But the implication is of much more concern. How many more deaths will Malaysia have to endure before we win the Battle of Stalingrad against Covid?” he asked.
The Iskandar Puteri MP said Hitler’s casualties were estimated to be about 800,000, including those missing or captured, adding that Soviet forces suffered 1.1 million casualties.
“The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the deadliest battles in World War 2. What is Takiyuddin suggesting?
“How many more deaths will Malaysia have to suffer before we win the Battle of Stalingrad against Covid-19?” he asked.
Takiyuddin was reported to have called on Malaysia to develop a strategy that evoked how the Soviet Union defeated Germany and its allies in the Battle of Stalingrad.
