Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Yong Lei Choo said police had identified two of the suspects.
“Hopefully, we should be able to get both of them,” she told reporters after a food aid distribution programme organised by the KL police headquarters at Jalan Hang Tuah.
“We will work with other agencies such as the health ministry which carry out screenings, the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) and the army to help avoid similar incidents,” she said.
Currently, 19 localities in Kuala Lumpur are under EMCO.
“In terms of law enforcement, we do face some difficulties but we will work towards improving all safety procedures to avoid this,” Yong said.
Yesterday, a two-minute video showing three men fleeing the People’s Housing Project (PPR) Pantai Ria flats at Pantai Dalam went viral. A police report was lodged over the incident.
In a statement, Brickfields police chief Anuar Omar identified one suspect as a 34-year-old man with six criminal cases that include drug offences, robbery and theft.
The other is a 46-year-old man with nine criminal cases that include burglary and drug offences.
The third man has yet to be identified, he said.
