Selangor’s Selvax aims for 43,500 jabs a day

Menteri Besar says increased daily capacity will shorten vaccination period by 100 days.

PETALING JAYA:
Selangor’s Covid-19 vaccination programme Selvax aims to increase vaccination capacity by 43,500 doses a day, the state government said today.

Menteri besar Amirudin Shari said that according to the current rate, the national Covid-19 immunisation programme (PICK) would only be completed by December at the earliest, with some recipients receiving their second dose of the vaccine next February.

“With Selvax, we are targeting an additional capacity of up to 43,500 vaccine doses per day through more than 22 vaccination centres (PPVs), such as community halls, mobile PPVs, private clinics and hospitals.

“This effort is expected to increase the daily capacity of vaccinations and shorten the vaccination period by 100 days by targeting 80% of the adult population in Selangor by October 2021,” he told a virtual press conference.

He added that Selvax would also help to achieve the vaccination target set by vaccine coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin, which is 135,000 jabs a day by July and 165,000 per day by August.

Amirudin said the state government had booked a total of 2.5 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine from Pharmaniaga Bhd.

The state vaccination programme targets two recipient groups – Selvax Community and Selvax Industry.

For the community group, the programme would benefit some 250,000 Selangor residents, while the industry group aims to vaccinate over one million workers in the state.

Amirudin noted that big companies in the state, such as 99 Speed Mart, leading audit firm Ernst & Young’s, GLCs such as Telekom Malaysia and Touch n Go, as well as leading construction companies such as EcoWorld and Tropicana, had registered for the state vaccination programme.
